ANIMAL ATTENDANT
South Utah Valley Animal Services Special Service District (SUVASSSD)
Part time Positions

Positions Available: (1) One Posted: ????

Essential Duties: Under the direction of the Animal Shelter Director, this position answers public questions and provides animal tracking, disease prevention, and medical treatment for animals at the South Utah Valley Animal Services Special Service District (SUVASSSD). The individual appointed to this position will be required to perform the following duties: maintain cleanliness of animal housing and isolation, office, and public areas; maintain shelter equipment and make repairs as necessary; greet public and provide accurate and friendly service; assist the public in locating lost pets and redeeming animals from the shelter; receive and accurately record animals brought into the shelter; check animal impound tickets and identification records for accuracy; examine the health of all animals impounded; assist with all animal care at facility; assist animal control officers with handling animals; perform animal euthanasia in accordance with shelter policies and procedures; maintain euthanasia equipment and supplies in accordance with applicable state and federal laws; provide training on euthanasia as necessary; handle emotional and irate individuals; coordinate the preparation and delivery of school presentations by education volunteers, including scheduling of in class education programs; and provide information to the public on proper animal care and nutrition. Individual will also be required to perform some office administration duties, including: secretarial, accounting, clerical, and related incidental and specialized duties.

Minimum Requirements: Equivalent to a high school diploma; and one (1) year of work experience as a veterinarian assistant or in performing animal shelter, animal control, or related activities.

Selection Factors: Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; ability to operate equipment used in animal handling and shelter operations; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to maintain files, records, and reports; and ability to efficiently coordinate multiple tasks. Skill in: difficult public relation situations; organization methods; word processing software; spreadsheet software; windows operating system; electronic communications; and reading, writing and math. Ability to: work with little or no supervision and make sound decisions in difficult situations; take and transcribe notes; give staff presentations when necessary; develop and recommend new office procedures; organize comprehensive or multiple projects; accurately write, format, and edit high profile documents; and consistently complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

License: Valid, lawful driver’s license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Wage: Starting at $10.69 per hour.

Schedule: Schedule will vary as determined by the Animal Shelter Director.

Physical/Environmental Factors: Work is performed in both environmentally controlled and partially environmentally controlled buildings and may expose incumbent to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation; and contagious or infectious diseases or hazardous chemicals. May also include exposure to possible injury from potentially vicious animals. Work is performed for sustained periods outdoors and occasionally in hot, cold, or inclement weather and requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. Employee will regularly walk, stand, or stoop; frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 100 pounds; ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like; use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity; walk, stand crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces; and restrain animals ranging in size and strength. Incumbent will also use office equipment as necessary. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection for this position will be based largely upon an oral interview.

Pre Employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Individuals with unsatisfactory drug screening results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any SUVASSSD position for a minimum period of six (6) months.

Come on down to our Rabies Clinic this Saturday March 10th. It will be held at the Spanish Fork Fire Station 400 North Main Street from 10:00am-12:00pm. We will be offering the following services… Rabies Vaccine $10.00, Licensing for spayed/ neutered dogs is $15.00 (for one year), Licensing for un-spayed/neutered dogs is $35.00 (for one year), Micro chipping $15.00, Dog parvo combo $15.00 and cat parvo combo $20.00.With any further questions please call the shelter at 801.851.4080 during our business hours.
